CHAPTER ONE

From the lair of Lionel…

Iwill admit that, for a time, my focus was captured by the overwhelming brilliance of my plan to trap the shadows. I had done it – I had become far greater and more powerful than the other Celestial Councillors and I stood upon the cusp of claiming my throne at last.

There were complications, yes. Clara’s return was not something I had foreseen, much less the fact that she would not be entirely herself when she came back to me.

It took me quite some time to pick apart the threads of truth which explained away her survival in the Shadow Realm, and I was more than a little surprised to find that her body was in fact shared with the Shadow Princess herself.

I had to be cautious, yet the Guardian Bond which linked me to Clara seemed to affect Lavinia too and it was with no great difficulty that I guided them into the proper place for such useful servants – beneath me at all times.

It took a lot of my focus to bring the Shadow Princess to heel, and though there were countless opportunities to be found in not only the power of the shadows I now possessed but in her command over them too, I had not come so far without being cautious.

So, I suppose I can excuse myself for allowing my gaze to shift, for not seeing sooner the spell which Roxanya Vega was weaving over my Heir.

The clues were all there. The way he spoke of the twins to me was the first of them – always with greater ire and a deeper anger when speaking of Roxanya than Gwendalina. Foolishly, I put that down to her being the more contentious of the two. And of course, Roxanya was housed in Ignis, right under his nose, able to rile him so much more often. But that meant she was able to tempt him so much more often too.

I wonder at which point I could have squashed his infatuation sooner. But in hindsight, I do not think it was a thing I could have achieved. She was clearly set on seducing him, no doubt just as desperate for power as her mother and just as willing to spread her legs to get a feel of it. And that was without the involvement of the stars in the matter.

I had it on great authority that she was even sucking his best friend’s cock and yet still he found himself utterly embroiled with her.

I saw it at Christmas. I saw the way his eyes trailed her just as I had seen it in my own home before that.

Foolishly, I’d thought that him fucking her would rid him of the want. I’d thought it just another of his ploys to destroy her – the ultimate degradation, to use her for his pleasure and abandon her while she was still cleaning the evidence of him claiming her from her flesh.
